Northern Colorado's dry summers are exactly what evaporative cooling was built for. A swamp cooler moves a lot of air for a fraction of the running cost of refrigerated A/C, and on our humidity it genuinely works. We install new units — roof-mount, side-draft and window — and service the ones already on the house: pads, pumps, float valves, belts, motors and the water line feeding it. Frequently asked questions
Swamp cooler or air conditioning?
Evaporative cooling works well in our dry climate and costs considerably less to run, but it needs open windows, adds humidity and struggles during monsoon-season humidity. Air conditioning is more consistent and works regardless of weather. Plenty of homes here are well served by a swamp cooler; some aren't, and we'll tell you which.
When should a swamp cooler be winterized?
Before the first hard freeze — typically autumn here. Winterizing means draining the water line, pulling the plug, and covering the unit. Skipping it risks a split supply line and a leak that shows up when you start the cooler in spring.
How often do the pads need replacing?
Usually annually, at spring startup. Pads accumulate mineral deposits from our hard water, which reduces both airflow and cooling. It's the single most impactful piece of swamp cooler maintenance.
